PRTC Weekly: 11/06/2019 (Run the Bridge, To the 5 Boroughs, and More)

Race Results

Camden, NJ: PRTC emerged victorious at this year’s Norcross Run the Bridge 10k as we bested rival USATF Mid-Atlantic club Greater Philadelphia in the Grand Prix Series for the first time in 2019 by a score of 429.669 to 412.647!.

10 members decided to brave this race and find out what running at tempo pace (or faster) felt like on the Ben Franklin Bridge. Long story short: it was a challenge, but a fun one. In addition to Greater Philadelphia TC, PRTC was not up against area rivals like Brock Butler and Broken Boys talent Samuel Layding as well as a notable contingent of world class African talent that showed up to throw down.

On the men's side, Dylan Gearinger and Greg Morgan led the way up the climbs and through the winds of the Ben Franklin Bridge as calls of "5:10" rang out when the lead pack crossed the first mile marker. Dylan went on to an impressive 3rd place finish with a time of 30:17 with Greg following in 5th at with a fast 30:28. Matt Kane, Alex Predhome (thanks for the write up!), and David Choi rounded out the men who faced off against the wind in no man's land.

Christine Eisenberg had a banner weekend as she followed up her success in coaching LaSalle University to an Atlantic 10 Championship with a stellar race of her own. Entering the event as defending champion, Christine faced a tougher field, but still managed to score in the money and brought home a huge new PR to boot. Her time of 34:22 beat her 2018 time by over a minute and earned 3rd place. Great race! Kinjal Dargan followed Christine as she claimed 4th with a time of 36:34. Alana Jacaruso and Ann Marie Everhart teamed up as they placed 6th and 7th with times of 37:53 and 38:06, respectively. Arianna Watters, coming off the Berlin Marathon, decided to give the 10k a shot and snagged a 44:06, within striking distance of a PR and 3rd in her division! Almost as clutch as helping find local knucklehead Alex Predhome's missing phone.

Shout out to Dylan, Greg, Christine, Matt, and Kinjal who turned in the 5 best age-graded results on the day leading us to our win over GPTC! Congrats to all who conquered the bridge!

New York, NY: PRTC also took to the Five Boroughs this past weekend as 3 of our members had excellent performances at the New York City Marathon.

Pat DeSabato was first to cross the finish line for the team in what he termed a "miracle" time of 2:30:21 after a less than ideal training cycle. He cited pain, stupidity, and grit in determining factors in leading to his successful race.

Harsha Thirumurthy followed DeSabato with a big master's PR as he hit the 2:30's with a final time of 2:38:59. This was his fastest time since 2009, when he last went under 2:40. Harsha achieved this great result with help from his family and even managed to achieve negative splits. Great work!

Shannon McCarthy had a huge breakthrough and lopped off an enormous 19 minutes off of her previous best marathon time. Improved training and marathon experience helped her finish in well under 3 hours and rocketed her into seriously fast territory. Her time of 2:52:42 earned 43rd female, 26th American Woman, and 2nd New Jerseyan, behind Olympic hopeful Roberta Groner. Congrats!
