PRTC Weekly: 10/01/2018 (Early Fall Results, Upcoming Club Races, and More)

Club Races

Our next Grand Prix race is right around the corner (this Sunday!). The Delaware Distance Classic 15k in Delaware City. The race director is offering PRTC a 25% discount on the entry fee. Please use code RUNPR25 when registering. Carpool available if needed. Reply to this email to secure a spot.

We also need to form a men and women's team for the classic Jack Saint Clair XC race at Belmont in two weeks. This race will help us secure travel funds for USATF Club XC Nationals in December. We're really excited to race in Spokane! Jack Saint Clair is the first step in sending a team. It's great XC experience and will help us better afford the trip. Sign up here!

Early Fall Results

Bethlehem, PA: PRTC traveled to Lehigh University for the 45th annual Paul Short XC Invitational. Race participants were gifted with beautiful early fall weather and took full advantage.

The men's open race was the first of the day. Even though few spikes had traversed the course, it was already quite muddy. Kevin Brandon and Alex Predhome set the pace for PRTC with 5:15 first miles. The pair used their experience to avoid the extremely common trap of going out too fast. Passing a large number of fading runners after mile one, they worked to keep pace. Kevin ended with a 5:19 average good for 26:24 and Alex recorded 5:22 miles for 26:36. Geoff Barletta took the third team spot in his PRTC debut. It was his first XC race in many years (since graduating from Temple). Fortunately, he was able to dust off his XC spikes and turn in a good performance of 27:46! Max Krall was sorely disappointed to find that the course (described as "pancake flat" by Alex) did, in fact, include a few inclines. He was looking for a faster time, but came through just over 29 at 29:03. Kurt Palumbo served as the all-important 5th man for PRTC wrapping up a full scoring team. He crossed the line in 32:40.

PRTC Men placed 18th out of 33 teams. This included college programs and USATF clubs. The group was particularly happy to best a certain team from New Jersey that we'll likely face off against again at USATF Club XC Nationals.

Erica Long represented PRTC's women's team in her club racing debut! She performed very well in the 6k race placing just outside of the top 100 with a 24:28. Nice job Erica!

Ocean City, NJ: Steve Hallman won the Ocean City Half Marathon for the 4th year in a row! He ran a strong race (mostly solo, judging by the 2nd place time) and crossed the line in 1:09:10. Steve is set up well for his goal race: The Amsterdam Marathon! As far as we know, this will be the first time a PRTC member races in The Netherlands (or The Kingdom of the Netherlands. Holland, apparently, refers to two providence's of The Netherlands: Zuid Holland and Noord-Holland (which contains Amsterdam).

Kinjal Parikh completed the sweep for PRTC in Ocean City by winning the women's division! This was her first appearance at this particular Half. She earned the overall win with a time of 1:22:06. An impressive performance for a race meant mostly as a progression workout!

Philadelphia, PA: The Parkway Run & Walk organized by CHOP was held on Sunday morning. Lauren Kelly won first place with a time of 18:34. She was pleased with her result and is excited to take on the Chicago Marathon next weekend. Proceeds from the race support the children's hospital. Lauren dedicated her race to her high school coach's grandson who is battling brain cancer which made her participation and victory even more meaningful. Nice job Lauren and good luck next week!

Ethan Herman made his PRTC debut at the race. Ethan is a freshman at Drexel University. He is currently training for his first marathon and is excited to get more involved with club runs in Philly. Nice job Ethan!
