PRTC Weekly: 09/24/2018 (Racin' Around the World and More)
Racin' Around the World
Philadelphia, PA: Chris Mateer punched his ticket for a return trip to Spain with his second Global Energy win on Sunday morning. For those unfamiliar, the race is held in 35 cities around the world. It is put on by Bimbo Bakeries with an aim of raising awareness of global hunger. Bimbo Bakeries donates two slices of bread for every kilometer participants for a total of over 1 million slices of donated bread. The winner (male/female) from each race is invited to run the event again the following year at a special destination (Madrid in 2019; Rio this year). All-expenses-paid for two!
Chris earned his return trip with a winning time of 32:38. Great job and congrats! Let us know what the application process is for travel partners!

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Sam Roecker reaped the bounty of winning last year's Global Energy race in Philly. She traveled to Brazil with Kinjal Parikh (who received the prize for her efforts in Spain). The pair (theoretically) participated in the Rio Global Energy 10k on Sunday around the same time as Chris was racing. Unfortunately, results were not easily accessible here in the US. We're looking forward to hearing about the race and trip upon their return!
Newville, PA: Alex Predhome reacquainted himself with XC at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational. Alex opted to go "short" with the 4k race. He competed against current college runners under the Dickinson alumni banner. Alex ran well and placed 11th with a time of 12:40. He plans to join PRTC at next week's XC outing at Paul Short. Nice job!
